Spending time with family. My grandson, Brennan, graduated from the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities this past Friday. We've just been hanging out and spending time with our son, his wife, their three boys, her mother, and father. We left Arkansas on May 12, spent time in Mississippi with my mother-and father-in-law, then went to Alabama to see my sister-in-law. Left Alabama on the 18th and stopped at my sisters and brother-in-law's near Atlanta. My sister and I did a mini shop hop on Monday, the 19th and visited several quilt shops. Started at Pickleweeds in Douglasville. It's a fairly new shop (less than a year old). Picked up a few yards of fabric from their sale room. From there we went to Cottontail Quilts (where I found some beautiful batik charm squares) and Little Quilts (what a great shop). During all this traveling, I have been working on my Dear Jane blocks, my Fossil Fern hexies, and quilting on my 9-patch small quilt. Here is a peak at my 9-patch.

And this is how I travel with Dear Jane:

And this is how my hexies travel.
Time to go spend some more time with the family. Will post more as we travel, especially as I find more quilt shops :-)

My first real post!

Well, I'm very new to this whole blogging thing, so bear with me. I call my blog "Quilts in the Box", because many of my quilts spend a lot of time in plastic boxes in the car with me. We travel a lot, especially during the summer, and I always take multiple projects with me. This summer, it will be Dear Jane blocks, a hexie project, and maybe a quilting project (if I can get it basted before we leave town). I mostly hand piece, hand appliqué, and hand quilt.
Hopefully, along the way, I will figure out how to post pictures to my posts. That will hopefully make this more interesting. I guess there's a way to tag topics? Guess I'll try to learn about that. All advice is welcome!
As we travel this summer, I will post some quilt shop reviews (when I can coerce my dear husband to stop). Our joint interest is craft beers and breweries, so you just might find something about that here, too.
BTW, the quilt in my header spent many hours on the road a couple of years ago. It's from the book "Hearts and Flowers" by Kathy Delaney.
